One of the great pleasures of owning a saltwater or reef aquarium, is the dazzling variety of colors that you can get with just three or four species. One good example, is the devil damselfish, also known as the yellow-tailed damselfish, Azure damselfish, and Demoiselle damselfish.

These are one of the easiest and most attractive saltwater fish for beginners to start out with, and are frequently used to "cycle" or set up a tank's environment. At only two inches long, you can easily keep a small group in a 30 gallon aquarium. They're also milder natured than other damselfish like the Four Stripe, and are not territorial or overly aggressive, preferring their own caves and resting places, and a plentiful diet of zooplankton and algae, with regular feedings of meaty foods like shrimp.

The body of the devil damselfish is a deep, azure blue, with the tail a bright yellow that darkens towards the end. As the fish age, the blue may take on a gray tint, and the tail will lose its brilliance, and fade to white. They make colorful streaks as they dash through your reef set up, with the tail color making a wonderful contrast to their bodies.

Your devil damsel will thrive in temperatures of 72-78F, with a pH of 8.1-8.4.
