Suckermouth Catfish - an amusing fish, especially for children, because of its mouth and the way it can cling to glass. Can be kept in pairs, and is normally peaceful, but has been known to turn on its own kind. Requires a 70-gallon or more tank, and typical catfish diet, which should be supplement with parboiled vegetables. Compatible with tetras, gouramis, angelfish, livebearers and danios. Grows to 12”.

Royal Discus - a recent addition to the South American discus family, having bright blue patterning, on the usual colored body for discus. One of the most popular and regal aquarium choices, you can either start with an established pair, or raise a small clutch of discus and let them pair off, themselves. Requires a large tank of 80 gallons or more, depending on how many are kept in the group. Because they come from a natural habitat where there is overhanging branches and dense cover, it is best to try and duplicate those conditions, even for captive bred fish. Compatible with livebearers, barbs, danios, cichlids and rainbowfish. Grows to 8”.

Zebra Danios - a silvery bodied fish with deep blue horizontal stripes, the female’s body tends to be less remarkable than the male’s, which has a bright yellow background to his stripes, and fine red lines between them. Does well in groups of three or more. Prefers shall water of 4-6” for breeding. Active and peaceful, they are compatible with tetras, angelfish, rasboras, plecos, angelfish and gouramis. Grows to 1 ¾”.

Green Molly - can be adapted to a totally freshwater aquarium, but does best in an environment of 1 tsp. of aquarium salt per gallon. A medium green, with horizontal stripes of dark dashes, and speckled dorsal fins. Requires clear water and lots of vegetable matter for optimal growth. Females are best removed to a separate tank for birthing. Can be kept in groups, but likes a large tank of 30-gallons or more, with lots of swimming room. Compatible with gouramis, barbs, tetras, plecos, loaches and catfish. Grows to 4 ½”.

Gold Nugget Pleco - a quiet, and even shy fish, darkly colored, with tiny whitish polka-dot type spots. A bottom dweller, it likes driftwood and overhangs to hide under. Can be kept in pairs, but requires a tank of 50-gallons or more. Compatible with cichlids, discus, angelfish, livebearers, and scavenger catfish.
