Should I Have a Fish-Only Saltwater Aquarium?
If you expect to have to use copper-based medications, you should
not include invertebrates in your saltwater aquarium. These
medications can help get rid of many tank problems...but can kill
many of your invertebrates, such as sea stars and snails.
If you do need to use copper-based medications, you can place
your invertebrates into a holding tank while you treat your fish. Be
sure to test for copper levels before you re-introduce your
invertebrates and look for a copper removal treatment to help reduce
copper levels. Never re-introduce your invertebrates until you test
for copper content in your water.
