What is a Reef Aquarium?
A reef aquarium is a saltwater aquarium that has an emphasis on
displaying a variety of corals. The aquarium will likely have some
compatible fish and non-predatory invertebrates. To build a reef
aquarium, you will be focusing on maintaining the conditions that a
coral requires for survival.
There are only a few different types of coral reef and only a
handful of major reef zones in the world. The amount of light, water
conditions, types of fish and invertebrates varies in each different
type of zone. Once you choose your coral reef, find out what kind of
animals live in that reef zone and include those. You can also
include other animals that may be in a different reef zone, but live
under the same conditions - but be sure to get advice from your
saltwater professional on this one.
