Live Food for Tropical Fish
Tropical fish do not live by flakes alone. Obtaining live and
frozen food for your tropical fish, is as simple as a trip to the
pet store, or a little foraging in the country.
Plankton - A live organism, either a floating plant or
animal, and natural food for many species. Can be harvested from
ponds, or ocean born plankton can be purchased from suppliers,
either fresh or frozen.
Brine Shrimp - Can be raised by the hobbyist to feed on their
own, but it takes a continuous effort to produce the supply needed.
Brine shrimp are harvested from saltwater ponds around the world.
The “cysts”, or egg, can be kept in a dry environment for months,
then re-hydrated and hatched. Fish prefer live over frozen, but
frozen can be purchased from most fish food suppliers.
Blood Worms - Bettas love this
protein rich, all natural food. Freeze drying locks in nutrients and
preserves the natural shape, making it more appetizing for finicky
eaters. Never clouds the water.
